from Toni Massey (Senior Tutor AIMA Archeology Australia )
As discussed I wanted to let BSAC know that we will be running a Wreck Spotters course (same as an AIMA/NAS part 1 course) in Coolangatta on 14 & 15 May. The course is being run in partnership with NSW Heritage, Qld Heritage (DES) and Reef Check Australia and is aimed at teaching people in all aspects of maritime archaeology (history, how to record sites, surveys techniques, conservation etc). The course is intended to train people to be the eyes and ears in the community, and provides a pool of people who can possibly be called on to inspect wrecks when new sites are discovered in NSW and Qld.
NSW Heritage has kindly offered to sponsor the course, so the course cost is free. This is open to divers and non divers. There are a limited number of spots available (15 participants) so is anyone is keen please let me know asap.
It would be fantastic to see BSAS members attend the course!
