The Gold Coast Seaway offers a sheltered environment to refresh skills or just for a dive around the 'pipes'. The quantity and variety of marine life can be quite surprising. The adjacent grassy parkland area offers the opportunity for open-air socialising and the kiosk provides meals and takeaway items.
Any member who is (a) a financial member and (b) whose skills and recent experience allow them to dive safely is welcome to come along and do your own thing. If you're rusty you'll need a suitable buddy and plan.
Maximum usual depth is 15m heading towards the middle of the channel. Conditions can be variable and the site is prone to tidal current so is usually dived around slack water.
Meeting places and times:
High Water is at 11:07AM at 1.47m. Slack is generally during the hour after HW.
- Trainees: Please arrive at the time arranged with your instructor.
- Cerified divers: You know how long it takes for you to kit up. Aim to be in the water around HW or when you decide is safe.
Organiser: Gavin Wills 0418 732 133
Lunch/social: To be determined based on numbers of divers and the weather.
Risk Assessment: Current club risk assessments are available here.
Diver grades: All levels are welcome in suitable buddy teams.
Equipment: Divers bring full SCUBA kit including cylinders and weights. Divers should carry knife/line cutter, whistle, safety sausage or DSMB + reel and snorkel. A compass may be useful to help you find the South bank of the channel if you become disorientated.

Costs: No costs (apart from your own costs of tank fills and carpooling if required).
Travel: Carpooling in line with current COVID guidelines - Please advise if you need a lift or can carpool.
Let the organiser know if you have any questions.
