Event information
This event is sold out.
The cave is a great swim through and the opening on the shallower side is spectacular. You'll be mesmerised watching the grey nurse sharks swim in and out of cave opening.
Organiser: Kathryn
Diver grades: This dive is for competent and confident divers with at least 30 dives. To dive the full length of the Fish Rock Cave swimthrough you will need to be BSAC Advanced Ocean Diver or equivalent or above and meet other experience requirements. Please note that the shallower end of Fish Rock Cave is 14m and quite wide, so Ocean Divers and those apprehensive about the cave can still have a great dive - it is an absolutely amazing shark watching dive even if you don't do the swimthrough!
Before you sign up please read the article: Fish Rock Cave - Is it a dive for you? and check out the diver risk assesment for Fish Rock.
Equipment: Divers must bring full diving kit. Cylinders and weights are provided by the operator. The dive centre provides Faber 12l steel cylinders and 32% nitrox for all divers. Divers must carry knife/line cutter, whistle, DSMB and reel, torch and snorkel. If you need club gear, please make sure you arrange this with the Equipment Officer well ahead of time.
- Bring a jacket, wooly hat and gloves if you're prone to getting cold in between dives. Sunscreen and hats are also a good plan.
- Sea sickness tablets are recommended!
- Bring your certification card(s), including whatever certifies you to dive nitrox as nitrox (so you don't have to use air settings).
Operator: South West Rocks Dive, https://swrdive.com.au/dive/
Travel: SW Rocks is a 6 hour drive from Brisbane, we can arrange car pooling so the driving time can be shared and nobody is driving whilst tired (especially on the return trip on the Sunday). If at all possible, aim to drive down and arrive before 4.30pm NSW time on Friday so that you can set up your dive gear before the dive shop closes. Please state your preferred departure & arrival time in the Notes when you sign up if possible.
Diving and accommodation: We have 10 diving spots reserved and 10 beds booked (8 in the 'house' - three rooms available (queen beds, 2 twin beds, queen + 2 twins), first in first served so state your preference) and 2 in the bunk accommodation though more can opt to go in the bunk accommodation). Includes linen, pillows and blankets, towels and toiletries are not supplied. If any non-divers come we will need to know ahead of time, so please include this when you sign up/as soon as you can.
Food: The dive shop provides basic breakfast (a selection of cereals, toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee, byo if you want more/anything different). We'll cater for lunch. Dinner on Friday is up to you depending on when you arrive. Dinner on Saturday for the group (optional) will be at the Surf Club or local restaurant to be advised. There's an IGA and a decent pizzeria across the carpark from the dive shop.
Numbers/Waitlist: I have booked 10 spots as last November was so good, please book as soon as you can, I will need to let the dive shop know how the numbers are tracking in late September, if numbers are very low I will release some spots. If the trip is fully booked and you want to be put on a waitlist (in-case of drop outs or more spaces being added) please send me an email.
