Sea Slug (Nudibranch) Census, Cook Island (12 Divers - 6 BSAC and 6 Unidive) - 6th October 2018
Purpose: The Gold Coast Sea Slug Census is a partnership with Southern Cross University and follows on from the successful census conducted over the past several years at Nelson Bay, New South Wales. Of recent, the census has expanded to Sydney and there are also plans to expand the event to biodiversity hot spots overseas. The census is a photographic contest with a touch of science along the way. Divers in buddy pairs are asked to take a photo of every sea slug found on their dive and to note the approximate size, depth and site information. All divers who provide photos and notes are then eligible for prizes.
Organiser: Laura (but happy to hand over to a trainee!). See Member List for email address and phone number.
Diver grades: This dive will be suitable for all diver grades.
Equipment: Divers must bring full diving kit excluding tanks and weights (other gear can be provided at extra cost). Divers should carry knife/line cutter, whistle, DSMB, and snorkel. Each buddy pair will also need a camera. If you haven't got one don't worry, we can buddy you with someone who has, and everyone can be a 'spotter'!
Operator: Tweed Seasports. Website: http://tweedseasports.com
Costs: The cost is $105 for 2 dives, including tanks and weights. Payment into the club account will be requested to confirm your place on the trip. This is not refundable due to the charter nature of the trip (i.e. we have to pay for your spot whether you show up or not). Bank details to follow by email once you have registered. If you pull out of the trip after you have paid it is up to you to find a suitable replacement. Please also ensure you share the fuel bill with those you share a ride with. They will provide nitrox for an extra $20 (you can pay this on the day, but you must tell me so they can prepare!).
You are welcome to bring your own tanks if you prefer and the operator will fill them after the dives, but please tell me ahead of time.
Travel: Exact time to be confirmed but is likely to be mid morning. Luckily NSW will still be on QLD time. Drive time will be approximately 1.5 hours from Brisbane (but can be longer with beach traffic if the weather is nice!). If people’s schedules allow we will arrange car pooling for the trip down and back. Please let me know if you are happy to drive and how many people (plus dive kit) you think you can fit in your car.
Diving: I have currently reserved the whole boat. Due to limited rsvp's from BSAC half of the boat has now been offered to Unidive.
Waitlist: If the trip is fully booked on the website and you want to be put on a waitlist (in-case of drop outs or more spaces being added) please send me an email.
