Tweed River Rescue Training and Dive Day

Event information

Registrations for this event are closed.

This is a day mainly dedicated to rescue training. We'll have trainees undertaking formal lessons but all members may attend these sessions to refresh skills subject to time and instructor availability. There's also a dive in the afternoon that can be a training dive or a general fun dive for those keen to rediscover the Tweed!

Training:

  • SO1 Rescue Skills for Sports Diver trainees
  • DO5 Rescue Management for Dive Leader trainee
  • OO1 and OO2 lessons for Ocean Diver trainee if required

Meeting Points and Times:

ALL TIMES ARE QUEENSLAND TIMES - This is the last day of daylight saving

  • Meet for morning rescue training: Grassed area above Little D-Bar Beach from 08:00. Near Northern carpark.
  • Lunch: After the dive - around 1PM
  • Meet for afternoon training: Jack Evans Harbour (Southern carpark) from 12:00
  • High water: 12:00. This is a very low tidal range. Entry to water should be possible before HW, say from 11:30AM.
  • Here's a web page with our Tweed location map.

Organiser: Donna (TO) and Gavin (DO)

Diver grades: All levels welcome!

Training: If you want to do specific training this must be organised in advance, with an instructor attending the trip. This trip is being organised specifically to include specific SD and DL lessons, but you will only be included in these lessons if you specify your intent beforehand and it is acknowledged by the instructors involved.

Equipment: Full SCUBA kit including your own tank and weights. All divers are responsible for arranging their own equipment, including cylinders and weights. Divers should carry knife/line cutter, whistle, DSMB and reel and snorkel. Please also confirm with your instructor if any other specialist equipment is needed for your lesson.

Hire of club equipment: Contact the Equipment Officer if you need to hire any club kit: https://www.brisbane-bsac.com/equipment You may also be able to hire cylinders and weights from a local dive operator (e.g. Kirra Dive).

Costs: No costs (apart from your own costs of tank fills and carpooling if required).

Travel: Please indicate if you require a lift or whether you can provide a lift to someone else. We will help to link you up.

Food: We suggest bringing some lunch. If people are keen to go to a cafe or pub afterwards, we'll see. Those doing skills may be at the river longer than a usual single dive, so BYO snacks would still be a good plan.
