All costs are inclusive, except;

  • Tourist Visa – US$35 (approx. A$48) on arrival
  • Breakfast is included in the price, which will be something along the lines of a continental style cuisine (fruit, toast, tea, coffee). If you want something else, you will have to pay for the privilege.
  • The only thing you need to buy there are your lunch and dinner daily, and any other sundries such as bottled water, alcohol, etc.

Diving: This is warm water diving, with an average water temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. It is cooler at depth, but most life is in the top 20 metres, so bring a suitable dive suit. It is better to be too warm than too cold!

The majority of the dives will be shore dives, so it’s a quick walk across the road, following the women with your full dive gear on their heads, to the shoreline. The dive guide talks you through the entry and exit process, you don your gear and off you go.

The various sites can be seen here (http://www.tulambenwreckdivers.com/Dive-Sites), however the main draw is the ship wreck of the USAT Liberty (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USAT_Liberty). I have had two dive holidays here, and both times have been astounded by the volume and variety of the sea life here. Flashlight fish, pygmy seahorses, frogfish of every colour, a resident school of humphead wrasse, mimic octopus, the list goes on...

Other dives are available, but will incur an additional charge and a bus ride to other parts of the island.

Accommodation: I have stayed at this accommodation before, but this was over 10 years ago, so I suspect a lot has changed. See their web site for more details (http://www.tulambenwreckdivers.com/Deluxe-Accommodation). There is a pool there so you can chill out and ‘rehydrate’ after a long days diving…

Catering: I first visited Tulamben in 2003 there were 2 cafe restaurants there. Now there is much more to choose from. I cannot guarantee specific dietary requirements, but will be surprised if the restaurants have not catered for your particular requirements before. This is a very popular dive destination for Europeans and Asians, so whatever you require will be catered for somewhere. May I suggest that you email the hotel to ask about specific dietary needs, just to make sure...!
